ideas + objects

I am a graduate of the Royal College or Art (2005) and a Textile Maker based in South Wales working predominantly in paper and cloth.
My creative practice is connected to nature and the common lands that I have grown up around. Using wild flora as visual metaphors for my matrilineality alongside the misdirection of what it is to be common, what it is to belong; be it to people or places. The notion of Hiraeth. What it is to be found or to be seen. To feel at home.
These ideas culminate as objects and texts; conversations of kinship, sisterhood and sameness. Making as a tool for remembering, honouring the lore of my childhood and celebrating what is to be found in the loss.
Common Study 1
For Julie and Patricia. Sisters, who grew up together, like the wildflowers at the foot of the mountain.
Similar and yet so very different, daisies and buttercups, their silent conversation interconnected by the presence of each other.
Togetherness. Otherness. A bundle of stories, golden like stars, forever imprinted upon me.
I have loved these women all my life.

Pieces of You + Me
7 x 7 found tins representing my known maternal line, each housing simple paper daisies that we all might have picked and chained - together and alone – as children. Tokens of a moment in time, tiny markers of celebration. For you and me, for everyone.
